Reigniting Desire in Sex-starved Relationships
Saturday March 5, 2016
9:00 - 4:30       $160/$137 until 2/5/16      6.5 CE hours

Back by popular demand, Dr. Tammy Nelson, renowned sexologist and couples therapist, will present her innovative approach to reigniting desire in non-sexual relationships. Learn a specific treatment protocol that can be integrated into other models of couples therapy to help low-desire or no-sex couples reduce trauma triggers, create new ways to talk and touch, and expand positive erotic interactions.

This presentation will explore where lack of desire originates in sex-starved couples and how to treat it using contemporary treatment models integrating couples therapy and sex therapy. Dr. Nelson is an expert at helping couples renew and rekindle desire by exploring anxiety in three areas: pleasure avoidance, pleasure denial, and pleasure rejection.

Clinical strategies for each desire discrepancy in all types of sexual relationships—heterosexual, LGBT, marriage, co-habiting partners—will be presented. Using video case examples and exercises, Dr. Nelson will demonstrate how desire and arousal can be hijacked in a relationship by narratives around resentment, longing, betrayal, and even by boredom in long-term partnerships. Interventions using fantasy and erotic curiosity can create new, explicit monogamy agreements that include erotic recovery in sexless marriages. We will look at each area and present the most effective interventions for a model of sexual integration and individuation.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Use specific interventions for the changing roles of monogamy and the sexual disconnection that lead to depersonalization and low desire
  • Apply new skills to increase desire and arousal via pleasure-oriented goals rather than performance goals
  • Prevent separation and trauma after betrayal and work with the anxiety of individuation through fantasy and erotic curiosity
  • Define the role of pharmacological interventions, sex coaching, and sex therapy in clinical work
  • Create explicit monogamy agreements for rekindling desire
